A Bar on Every Corner: Sobering Up in a Tempting World
Published in Hardcover by Hazelden Information Education (September, 2001)
Authors: Jack Erdmann, Larry Kearney, and Anne Lamott
Average review score:

A beautiful, frightening, compassionate work
Jack Erdmann delivers a gift - a brutally honest true story about one man's struggle with alcohol. However, this book is more than just a book about alcohol and alcoholics - it is a great story, period. The language may be raw or lyrical, and the story is heartbreaking, funny, and ultimately filled with hope. If you enjoy this book read 'Whiskey's Children', by the same author.

Alcoholism
What a wonderful, wonderful book about the recovery and the real life application of the
twelve steps that have taken a man from hell into sobriety and sanity. This is a inspiring
honest book about a man who finds hope and the miracles that follow.
A great book !!

The Continental Philosophy Reader
Published in Paperback by Routledge (February, 1996)
Authors: Richard Kearney and Mara Rainwater
Average review score:

Indispensable Survey of Continental Philosphers
If you do not have enough time to sift through all the important continental philosophers, but want to get a detailed summary idea of their thoughts, this book is an excellent primer. Kearney has done an excellent job of anthologizing selections of text that best represent each philosopher's thoughts. Treacherous waters of phenomenology, hermaneutics, deconstruction, and such can be navigated through these selections of writings, and there are excellent introductions to the philosophers and their work in the beginning of each text. Especially now that we are in the 21st century, these thoughts of the 20th century must be appreciated to know our own history - cultural, philosophical, and historical. This book is an excellent start.

An Excellent Overview of Many Great Continental Philosophers
As a student of Dr.Kearney, I can say with confidence that this work is a very excellent and informative survey of the world's modern western continental philosophers. For anyone interested in studying philosophy, this is an great place to find where your interests lie and where a possible concentration might possible develop. For those who seek specifics, this work is divided into a section of phenomenology and hermeneutics, then a section on critcal thinking and theory and finishes off with a study of structuralism. Definitely a worthwhile read for anyone interested in western philosophy.

Tracking : A Blueprint for Learning How
Published in Paperback by Pathways Pr (01 November, 1999)
Author: Jack Kearney
Average review score:

The Base That every Human Tracker should start with.
The foundation of this book has been taught to Thousands of Search & Rescue, Law Enforcement & Military trackers, since it's release years ago. I strongly suggest this book as a beginning base for new trackers to start with, as well as a reality check for seasoned trackers. It is the best book I've read on the subject of tracking humans with it's ability to teach you tracking, second only to the actual "Dirt time" of getting outdoors and learning by doing.

The best reference source for tracking humans.
This book is crammed full of information about tracking humans. You won't find a more useful resource out there. Kearney spent years using the skills he writes about in the book. If you are trying to learn to track, whether it's for your own personal enrichment or for Search and Rescue work, you will find a tremendous resource in these pages. I highly recommend this book. It is also a standard textbook for every SAR tracking class I have attended. Save a life - buy this book and learn to track. You will never again have to worry about becoming lost in the wilderness if you can track your way back.

Authors: Milo Kearney and Anthony K. Knopp
Average review score:

enthusiasts should read this, too know of brownsville's hist
i have to say that milo kearney does a great job in documenting the history of brownsville, and matamoros. everything has a beginning, and this Professor of Historical sciences at the University of Texas at Brownsville does a fantastic job. The only thing that is really not good are the illustrations by petr Gawendra. they are really non enthusiastic, and super cheezy. i dont care what any one else says,a lousy effort. any way the book is worth it, for any one who wants to find out the history of this city [brownsville]this book is for you. Antonio Knopp also contributed to this literature work.

Casebook in Child Behavior Disorders
Published in Paperback by Wadsworth Publishing (25 September, 1998)
Author: Christopher A. Kearney
Average review score:

A LOOK INTO CHILD PSYCHOPATHOLOGY
THIS IS A VERY TOUCHING BOOK OF CASE STORIES ABOUT CHILDREN WITH DISORDERS. EACH CHAPTER IS A DIFFERENT CASE STORY DEALING WITH CHILD PSYCHOPATHOLOGY. THE STORIES ARE SOMETIMES SAD BUT REALLY WILL OPEN YOUR EYES TO THE TERRIBLE TRAMA MANY OF THESE CHILDREN HAVE TO GO THROUGH GROWING UP. TAKING A LOOK AT THE ENVIRONMENT THE CHILDREN LIVE IN, THE WAY THEY ARE TALKED TO AND THE OTHERS ARE TALKED TO IN THE HOUSE, MAKES A PERSON REALIZE THAT OFTEN THE PROBLEMS WE SEE IN CHILDREN ARE ACTUALLY THE CAUSE OF THEIR PARENTS.
EACH CHAPTER HAS A SECTION ON ASSESSMENT, TREATMENT, ETC., FROM THE THERAPIST POINT OF VIEW. IT REFERS TO THE DSM-IV AND LIST THE CRITEREA FOR DIAGNOSIS.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHO CARES ABOUT CHILDREN AND ANYONE WHO HAD SOME TYPE OF TRAUMA GROWING UP. I ALSO RECOMMEND IT TO PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS OR ANYONE INTERESTED IN PSYCHOLOGY.

Classic Climbs of the Northwest
Published in Paperback by Alpenbooks (April, 2002)
Author: Alan Kearney
Average review score:

A must for any climber's library
This is a great book for anyone who climbs in the Northwest or is interested in Northwest climbing history. The book gives a unique view into Kearney's life long love affair with the high, wild, and often remote summits. Kearney has been climbing, seemingly non-stop, since the early seventies and his passion for the sport leaps off the pages. In addition to the "normal" pictures and route descriptions(excellent), Kearney includes information regarding the history of the route and the individuals involved.(these are often fascinating stories - in a number of cases the first accents were done by the author) The historical overview is followed by an account of the accent that involved the author.(Kearney has climbed every route - 4 in British Columbia, 43 in Washington, 2 in Oregon and 2 in Idaho) This is a great addition to any climber's library. You should buy this book even if you own the other guides to the region.

Whiskey's Children
Published in Hardcover by Kensington Pub Corp (October, 1997)
Authors: Jack Erdmann, Larry Kearney, and Anne Lamott
Average review score:

A triumphant story poorly written
Jack has a great story to tell but unfortunately is unable to tell it. The writing style barely skims the surface of the emotions and skips off at tangents leaving the reader wanting to connect but unable too. Unlike Angela's Ashes, this book read flat, devoid of real emotion, and with no apparent depth. My hat is off to Mister Erdmann for surviving and having the strength to tell the tale, I just wish it had been told more.

I thought it was terrific.
Whiskey's Children touched me far more than Angela's Ashes. It hit me in emotional places I hadn't visited for a long, long time. The prose was brilliant. As Annie Lamott the New York Times Best Selling Author wrote in her forward: "a story so beautifully told it will leave you shaking with wonder". Exactly! When I read the rave reviews on the jacket I was struck by Senator George McGovern's remarks: "Heartbreaking and soaring. A testament of survivial and hope for all who suffer from this affliction". D. May

I believe Whiskey's Children is the most powerful and inspirational book ever written on alcoholism.

Everyone who loves a fast and gripping read should run, not walk, to the nearest bookstore and pick one up.

Whiskey's Children is an emotional rollercoaster!
Jack Erdmann has walked the walk of an alcoholic and takes us inside the mind, heart and soul of the person that is hopelessly addicted. The emotional trauma that is involved in the machine of a family disease is gut renching. I cried and I laughed and I held my breath. Nobody knows the incomprehensible hold of alcohol like this author. I have read many books about the disease of alcohol and recovery testamonials but this book lays it on the line like no other. There is hope for the alcoholic and that comes shinning through in Mr. Erdmann's book. The machinery has to stop somewhere in the family of the alcoholic. It seems to be a genetic, inherited disease that needs early intervention. People do not have to go through the hell Jack did if they will heed the warning signs. Friends and family have a mandatory responsibility to intervene when the signals of alcohol or addiction are waving frantically in their faces. A great book!!!!
